The new standard for sharp unrestricted vision

Perfect Natural Vision in All Directions

Vision as a dynamic process
Existing aspheric lens designs can help to compensate for shortfalls in vision. However, they can only compensate the horizontal and vertical axes, but we all know that people actually look in other directions as well.

Hoya has continued to strive to further optimize lens design and has now taken a completely new approach. Instead of taking the lens itself as the starting point, Hoya has examined the behavior and dynamic movements of the human eye.

For Hoya, natural vision has always been the driving force behind its research and development into products and technologies.

As a result, Hoya has developed a major breakthrough for the optical world. Hoya introduces Nulux EP, a lens that offers perfect natural vision in all directions. Today’s consumer no longer has to tolerate restrictions in their ability to work, rest or play!
Nulux EP is the ideal lens for your customers who value a dynamic lifestyle and will only accept the very best when it comes to their lenses.

Calculated Visual Acuity and Listing's Laws

Calculated Visual Acuity
With standard aspheric lens designs, the physiological functions of the eye such as visual acuity and the eyeball movements are not taken into consideration and are based upon optical calculation alone.

Hoya, however, has now developed a new design technique called ‘Calculated Visual Acuity This method takes into consideration the correlation between optical aberration, measured human visual acuity and eyeball movements. This new design technique formed the basis for optimizing the calculation of the lens design for the double aspheric, Nulux EP.

The new and advanced Calculated Visual Acuity technique and the relationship with the above optical features opens new perspectives in offering higher visual performance in all directions of sight. This calculation method has given Hoya a better understanding of the actual performance of a lens and guarantees a wider, clearer visual field and optimal visual performance.

Eyeball movement according to Listing's Law theory as a high-end evaluation technique

Listing's Law
Listing’s Law maps out all the different movements that an eye makes from the center to all the various eccentric positions along equal axes. In other words, not only does it calculate the coordinates on the horizontal and vertical axes (used to calculate standard lens designs), but also takes into account the other coordinates in between.

Listing’s Law served as an important evaluation function for the Nulux EP design, in which all movements of the eyes have been taken into consideration.

The major advantage of this is that peripheral distortion is reduced in all directions, which ensures that a more relaxed image is provided than is possible with standard spherical and aspherical lenses.

Nulux EP contributes to a dynamic lifestyle thanks to a number of exceptional product characteristics. These characteristics were taken as the starting point for optimization of aesthetics and optical accuracy.

Optimization at all powers

High-End "FreeForm" cutting technology

The ideal combination of aesthetic looks and optical performance
Thanks to the flatter curvature of the Nulux EP design, you can offer your customers thin, lightweight lenses. What’s more, their eyes will appear less bulbous (especially in high prescriptions) compared to standard lenses, resulting in your customer’s lenses appearing to be of a lower prescription than they actually are.

Optimization at all powers

Traditional lenses are optimized using one base curve for a range of powers; the front surface is finished through a casting process and the power is produced by a curve being cut onto the back surface of the lens.
Thanks to the ‘Freeform’ cutting technology, the power is produced by surfacing BOTH the front and back curves, thus optimizing the power and performance of the lens. What’s more, both surfaces are finished using Hoya’s revolutionary improved polishing technology, improving both the clarity and quality of the finished lens.

Whatever the lens power, Nulux EP guarantees that you can now provide your customers with the best visual solution.

Nulux EP is the ideal lens for your customers who value a dynamic lifestyle and will only accept the very best when it comes to their lenses. It is ideal for high powered prescriptions, particularly high plus prescriptions, whereby eye magnification will be dramatically reduced.
